Tobacco
cultivation has been known on La Palma
since the 18th century. Although there
is no evidence about the exact date when
the tobacco was introduced on the island.
In those days, the tobacco was used as
a trade exchange with America at the harbour
of Santa Cruz de La Palma. There are many
different references that tobacco and
cacao were a payment for the shipped cargo
to the harbour of La Habana.

Since the 19th
century tobacco is generally a craft production,
brought by La Palma emigrants from Cuba.
In those days
it was mainly used for family or home

The quality of
the tobacco from La Palma is well known
all over the world since the beginnings,
thanks to the emigrants who came back
from Cuba where they learned the trade
of making cigars.
